Perfect location
We had never stayed in this neighborhood before and I’m so glad we did! It was so beautiful and easy walk to some of the best restaurants (Chez Nous, Southbound, Co-op for lunch). Hands down my favorite part was having access to bikes. Being able to ride around a large area on our own was the best on a beautiful, sunny day! The room (and common area) was beautiful and we loved the lower level speakeasy suite.

Great stay!
We had never been to Charleston and staying at the Ashley allowed us to have a very comfortable stay in a historic building that has been very comfortably restored. We loved the property and would absolutely stay again. Thank you for the taste of southern charm!

Great place to stay while taking in Charleston
Unique place that gets a lot right. Well located to be in walking distance of most of the historic district and many nearby restaurants and bars. Well done restoration of a mansion. Nice touches with breakfast, loanable bikes and off-street parking (which is necessary in Charleston). Loved sitting on the veranda in the evening. We stayed in the speakeasy room with a downstairs bar area. Room was clean with a nice bathroom and great memory foam mattress. The only knock is that the downstairs was so poorly lit (to create ambiance?) that we had no interest in spending time down there.

Nice but…
Nice place but the location is very noisy between the very busy intersection, the hospital helicopter down the street and the construction work around the house!!! Nice house but no double window or other insulation… So be prepared come with your ear plugs:(

Splendid place | Rough on the amenities
Loved the Suite. Room 1, the Speakeasy suite. Loved it. However, the marketing said they were taking “technology-forward, hands off approach”. Could have used a little more hands on. Needed assistance a few times and couldn’t find anyone. Otherwise wonderful stay.

What an awesome place!
It was even better than I expected! The room was very clean, bed was comfortable, and decorated beautifully. The Nespresso machine in the room was awesome. They had an espresso machine in the common area with all of the things you could imagine. The breakfast sandwiches were delicious, super convenient way to start our day! Sitting on the porch in the mornings in the evenings was wonderful! I can’t say enough good things about this place. Don’t hesitate to book! Loved it!!!

Directions for operation of fire pit would be helpful. More variety at breakfast for those staying several days would be appreciated. Biggest downside was lack of ability to adjust temperature in room. It was uncomfortable! Cleaning staff was terrific! Thorough, cheerful, helpful.

Clean suite with comfy bed but some hiccups
Arrived and door code didn’t work. No owner on site. Called listing number and was given instructions which I’d already followed. Not opening so they gave me a new code. It was 80 degrees and thus took 29-30 minutes to get access to my suite. Decor was good although being in historic Charleston in a 170 historic house, would have expected a few antiques. Bed was very comfortable.

Loved this place! Perfect location, close but also just enough out of the way. Nice amenities, convenient and yummy grab and go breakfast. They thought of everything to make their guests feel at home. Also loved the decor and history of the site. Loved the “speakeasy” basement in my room, too. Would def stay again!!

Enjoyable stay in historical Charleston
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Ashley. We stayed in a room called the speakeasy suite. It was a unique room with a living quarters below the bedroom. The stairs down were a little difficult to navigate for an older couple, but otherwise it was a beautiful room with an interesting history. We could not quite figure out the thermostat and the room did not cool down much during the nights we were there. The breakfast was "grab and go" with delicious breakfast sandwiches available in a food warmer every morning. The location was ideal as we could walk everywhere and/or catch the free shuttle around the historical district. We would stay again!

Beautifully Restored Property
Our stay at The Ashley was pleasant enough. It had been recently renovated and they spared no expense. Bathrooms were tastefully done and bed was very comfortable. About a 30 minute walk from downtown Charleston but only 10 minute walk to popular and busy King Street. They even provided bikes for further adventures. The only two negatives were the noise and our room location. Because it is close to the medical center/school, the mornings were a bit noisy with trucks and the like. Our room was on the first floor and right by the entrance and so, with those beautiful large southern wood doors, every time someone came in or out of the house we knew about it. The room itself was lovely, especially the artfully decorated and private speakeasy room in the basement. However, because of the room location was quite central to the building, we had to keep the blinds closed the entire stay and so we never got to experience that gorgeous South Carolina sun while staying in our room. They just opened so hopefully they’ll work out some of the kinks - our AC unit wasn’t really working the final night. But overall, a lovely stay.
