Paxton View Barn is an attractive and airy detached barn conversion situated within the grounds of the owner’s smallholding, where they have a horse, donkeys and chickens. The barn has been carefully renovated to provide quality accommodation with contemporary comforts.

To the front and side of the barn, there is a spacious stone patio leading to a lawned area, the perfect spot for enjoying an al-fresco meal with a drink. The interiors feature exposed stone, brickwork and oak lintels which add much character, and the combination of underfloor heating and a wood burner provide all the warmth and cosiness you will need. The full-length feature window and patio doors allow natural light to flood the rooms, and the open-plan living space boasts comfortable seating and a bespoke kitchen with an induction hob and a built-in oven. Also on the ground floor, there is a twin bedroom and a separate toilet. On the first floor, you will find the family bathroom and two bedrooms, both with kingsize beds, one of which also has an en-suite shower room and a delightful balcony with table and chairs, to take full advantage of the view of Paxton‘s Tower, after which the barn was named.

The tower is a neo-Gothic folly built by Sir William Paxton in honour of Lord Nelson. Well worth a visit, it is situated on a hilltop near Llanarthney, and its location provides fabulous views over the National Botanic Gardens of Wales and the Towy Valley. These famous botanic gardens, just two miles away, are a fascinating blend of the contemporary with the historic. You will find an inspiring range of themed gardens, the world’s largest single-span domed glasshouse, play areas and a national nature reserve, all set in a Regency landscape, which provides the stage for a packed programme of events and courses throughout the year, whatever the weather.

Carmarthenshire has some of the most spectacular and diverse landscapes in south west Wales. You can travel over breathtaking mountains, through lush, green landscapes, discover secluded castles and ancient forests, as well as vast expanses of golden sandy beaches such as the Pembrey (one of the longest in Wales), Laugharne, Pendine and Lansteffan. Also within easy reach are a wealth of attractions found along the Pembrokeshire Coastline and the Gower Peninsula.

Just a 10-minute drive away is Carmarthen; the oldest town in Wales and the birthplace of Merlin according to Arthurian legends. The town offers an array of shopping, entertainment and dining options, and equally worthy of a visit is the old jail house, which dates back to the 1530s. Today, it serves as a museum nestling within the outer walls of the imposing County Hall. Just outside the town, you can take a ride aboard the Gwilil Steam Railway, which puffs its way through the Carmarthenshire countryside, and special adult and family events take place throughout the year.

Why not come and stay at Paxton View Barn and find out for yourself how much there is to discover in this wonderful region? When you have enjoyed a busy day’s exploring, you will find a ’Croesco Cynnes’ or a warm Welsh welcome just half a mile away in one of the two traditional pubs, complete with oak beams, roaring log fires and locally sourced produce. One of them, a 14th century thatched pub, has its own brewery crafting real ales and cider. The owners live in the adjacent building, so help is always at hand. Beach 20 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.
