This property is beautiful and was large enough for our group of 11 people. However, the number of issues we ran into during our short stay indicated poor maintenance, and the property manager was inconsistent and unhelpful. We would not recommend staying at this property.
The driveway is steep, curved, and not properly maintained. (We were told the city does not allow parking on the street, so a usable driveway is absolutely essential.) We were careful to bring cars equipped for winter weather, but the driveway was so packed with snow and ice during our stay that our 4WD cars got stuck. Although snow melt was provided, it was inadequate and we had to call a tow truck – in the middle of our vacation – to move one of our cars. The stuck car was ultimately unusable for nearly two whole days. Luckily, there were no guests in the second half of the duplex or they would have been blocked in by our stuck car. The iciness was generally a safety hazard for us walking in and out of the house as well. Even with heavy-duty snow boots with good traction, the level of ice on the driveway and the stairs to enter the house caused multiple people to slip dangerously. Other driveways in the neighborhood were properly maintained and completely clear of snow and ice, indicating the property manager’s ability to avoid these safety issues with adequate care and attention.
To make matters worse, the nighttime number provided by the property was completely unhelpful and did not provide true assistance. When we called for help with the driveway and our stuck car, an individual promised to send help the following day. No one arrived the following day. When we called back, we were told no help would be sent – contrary to what was promised the night before – and, absurdly, that we should try to purchase chains from Walmart using our car that was stuck on the driveway. Unfortunately, this level of service wasted our time rather than provide any real assistance.
Some additional issues include: the sink in the half-bath and the tub in the shared jack and jill drains very slowly; the dishwasher didn’t fully drain the water during each load; the bathrooms did not have enough soap, and the kitchen lacked necessities like salt and oil.
Finally, if you are unused to high altitudes, take precautions against altitude sickness and bring ibuprofen for the first few days as your body adjusts.
