Pioneer Hut - Step back in time

Black Horse Park is an historic property first settled in the 1850s by George and Arthur Desmond and located on 20 acres of gently undulating pasture in the prestigious Boorolite Valley of the Victorian High Country. Enriched with age old European Oaks, Elms, Poplars,Liquid Ambers' and Pin Oaks, the property is also close to Mansfield State Forest.
With the property established in the 1850's, the Black Horse Park Homestead is currently undergoing extensive renovations to restore its rich and fascinating history and is also available for holiday accommodation.
*We also have the recently renovated Pin Oak Chapel moved to Black Horse Park in the 1940s and originally used for stabling the horses and the Elm Cabin available for accommodation*( Please feel free to ask for more details )

The Pioneer Hut is the original kitchen that was used back in the 1850s for the Desmond family who were the founders of the property and were amongst the first Europeans to settle in the district.
The building has been tastefully renovated to retain the historic feel of a bygone era and will give all who stay here a totally unique experience.
A rustic stone and cast iron fireplace is the centre piece of the building and will ensure you are kept you warm and cosy.

The Pioneers Hut is fully self contained and comes equipped with a convection oven / grill / microwave oven, refrigerator, all cooking dishes, utensils, crockery, cutlery etc, 32 inch flat screen TV / DVD player, heater, electric blanket, all linen, pillows, towels and has a BBQ and outside fireplace as well.

We also include for your convenience Tea, coffee, sugar and milk.
With all the modern day creature comforts at your disposal and still retaining the unique old world charm you are sure to enjoy your time in this gorgeous hut.

Black Horse Park is centrally and ideally located; 15 mins to Mansfield township 20 mins to Mt Buller 10 mins to Goughs Bay 15 mins to Macs Cove, Howqua Inlet and Jamieson.
While in the high country why not pack a picnic lunch and take a leisurely drive to the King Valley wine region, stopping at Powers Lookout along the way, it's simply breathtaking. When you arrive at Whitfield (approx. 45 mins.) you're biggest decision will be which winery to go to, there's about ten in the area...... Oh just try them all! Black Horse Park is an all year round holiday location. The area caters for: Snow skiing / snowboarding at Mt Buller, fishing / swimming at the Delatite River (just 2mins away), horse riding in Mansfield State Forest / Victorian High Country, mountain biking / cycling at the rail trail and Mt Buller ( We have bikes and helmets available for hire) four wheel driving and exploring, golf at Mansfield Golf Club or just enjoy a gourmet platter and a glass of fine local wine at one of the local wineries.

Lake Eildon is only 10 minutes away so why not bring your boat, we have heaps of room to park it safely.
Goughs Bay has three great concrete ramps so you can always access the lake no matter what the water level is.
Besides all the usual water sport activities you should try the bars / resaurants on the waters edge, just pull up, tie up and enjoy.

These are just a few of the wonderful activities on offer. If you would like to bring you're horse and ride the vast expanses of the Victorian High Country, it's on our doorstep, with endless tracks to ride you'll be amazed at the breathtaking scenery and awesome riding trails.

We have excellent horse friendly paddocks and four post and rail yards with water and washing facilities and plenty of room to park the float.
You don't even have to bring your own hay as we have plenty of good quality grass hay here you can buy at a very reasonable price.
Your horse can stay for $10 per night or if you are unable to bring one don't worry we can arrange local horses and guides for you.
During your stay at Black Horse Park, feel free to wander the property, fish for Red Fin, Rainbow trout and Yabbies or even have a swim in our large clean dam, sip on a glass of you're favourite wine, read a book or just have an afternoon nap.

Please be aware there are other accommodation options on the property and there may be other guests in close proximity. If you are looking for a peaceful and tranquil getaway then Black Horse Park is the place for you.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Best Regards
Rob and Helen Hart

Relaxing scenic getaway
Thank you for the wonderful stay! It was a beautiful property and the Pioneers Hut was wonderfully appointed and felt very homely. It was close to Mansfield for the shops, but isolated enough to feel right in nature.

Amazing Heritage Cottage
This cabin was such a treasure. While it is a heritage cottage, it was warm, clean and exactly as described and pictured. Communication with the host was easy and the visit from the farm dog just topped off our stay. Highly recommend and hope to be back.

A stay in the Hills
The ambience is every interesting, very rustic and very quiet. We had the whole to place to ourselves. It would better if there was a cook top to prepare meals. All in all, we enjoyed our stay very much. But there was no breakfast as advertised.

Owners don’t reply text message or phone
We enjoyed our stay but we did try to reach the owner who told us that we could borrow bikes and we never heard back from them again. We left a text message and we called the phone number they provided in the guest booklet but they have never returned our calls. Also we were not asked if we want the room to be tidied but one day found that it was tidied without letting us know. We might prefered to be acknowledged before that somebody coukd get into the room whilw we were away..

Thoroughly enjoyed everything about this place. Peaceful, quiet and rustic.. Perfect
I'd been looking for a place to stay like this for a long time.. Totally rustic little hut with nothing around other than fresh air, birds and nature. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.. I wished I'd stayed longer. I'll definitely be back.

We had a ball!
We have had a wonderful stay here! Rob is an exceptional host and we felt at home immediately. We loved meeting and feeding bread, carrots, apples and pears to the three resident cows - they are nameless so we have called them Geraldine, Gloria and Gigi. Rob’s dogs also popped over for a visit. They are beautiful and entertaining! We have enjoyed so many walks around here and, as restrictions have lifted with COVID, we have also done some hiking and 4WD - the trails and tracks are all easily accessible from here. We will definitely be back to visit again!!!

Welcoming and comfortable
Rob was very welcoming and made it clear that he was available if needed. The cottage was really close to the main house but we had absolute privacy and hardly knew anyone else was about. The restored cottage was beautifully done with charming derail. We loved our time there.

A cosy and warm hut with a very comfortable bed. We had everything we needed.
The property is very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed the wide open spaces. I loved sitting outside in front of the outdoor fire. The hut is cosy and warm. The wood fire stove kept us very warm but there are extra heaters if you need them. We had everything we needed. Rob and Helen supplied us with some staples for our breakfast. Lovely fresh eggs, juice bread and some spreads. We did most of our coming on the barbecue outside. We slept very well. The bed was very comfortable and all the fresh air gave us a good night sleep. The hut is very clean and well presented. I love that it is just one room. It makes the experience all the more cosy and restful. Just be aware that your puppies are welcome but they must remain outside. We will definitely be back.
