Super hotel

Super hotel very close to the old town. Building is new and fresh. Fair price and an excellent breakfast. Staff were friendly. Will stay again if in Bilbao.

Excellent boutique style hotel

Fantastic hotel, great location in centre of Bilbao. Very friendly and exceptional reception staff. Beautiful and very comfortable rooms with great shower. Delicious, fresh and tasty breakfast with lots of choice. Great coffee and breakfast staff so friendly and helpful. We didn’t use roof top pool as weather not hot enough, but looked stunning and will return in the summer to try it out. Cannot recommend more highly.

Lovely quiet room. City view room was not of the city- faced a block wall! Asked Robin ( reception) for alternative - very unhelpful and rude. Didn’t tell us details of spa /hotel etc when we checked in. Told us to come back at 3pm only to discover our bags had not been put inside luggage room - had been left outside the door unattended and also no room change requested! Robin was going off shift at 3! Hotel very nice, good location.

This Axel is relatively new. The rooms are well designed, the shower is very stylish. Ivan and his staff do their best to give a good client experience. Ivan checked me in and was extremely charming. There was an issue with another guest and they put things right promptly. My only little criticism is that the spa is small and nice but none of its facilities were warm enough, the spa, jacuzzi and steam all needed to be a few degrees warmer. Also the Axel in San Sebastián provided bathrobes and slippers at no extra cost and they were in the room, in Bilbao there is a charge but as the changing facility in the spa is small it would be better to also provide the robes and slippers in the rooms. Otherwise the hotel is beautifully appointed and a great location for the Old Town and a fifteen/twenty minute walk to the Guggenheim.

We spent a week in the newly opened Axel Hotel in Bilbao. Our choice turned out to be perfect in every possible way. The staff in every area is outstanding, friendly, smiling, accommodating from the Reception to kitchen/bar staff, housekeeping. It is hard to name all but wanted to thank Luz for her big smile and attentiveness each morning during breakfast. She picked up on my husband’s birthday and the hotel arranged a birthday greeting and a gift that was left in our room. The breakfast is a treat. The room is spacious and well equipped. The bathroom with rain shower is a delight and separate WC is ideal. The king bed was very comfortable. The location is ideal, as located close to public transport, walkable to nearly everything, and on the river Nervion. Behind the hotel is Abando with the museums and across the bridge is Casco Viejo (old town). A wonderful location.

New nice hotel, great value and high quality. I would book it again. Negative: the breakfast is good, but is not really like to pictures, but good! South of the hotel is a shady quarter, so stay north of west.

Sehr empfehlenswert! Das Hotel liegt direkt an der Altstadt und 3 Gehminuten vom Mercado de la Ribera entfernt. Schaut dort unbedingt auf ein paar Pintxos vorbei! Die Strassenbahn und Busse halten quasi direkt vor der Tür. Das Meer ist mit der Metro innerhalb von 30 Minuten erreichbar. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und kundenorientiert. Die Zimmer sind gut ausgestattet mit einer großen Dusche und guten Betten. Wenn ich nochmal nach Bilbao reisen sollte, dann würde ich auf jedenfall wieder dieses Hotel buchen. Preis/Leistungsverhältnis ist top!
