We had a lovely time at Sekoen. Everyone there is very professional. Their smiling faces really light the the days of guests. The meals are very delicious and they are very thoughtful to include local delicacy in their dishes. I am especially impressed with the way they serve the breakfast and dinner. They explain the ingredients and the way to enjoy food in details so they we can not only enjoy the food, but also get to know more about the local food culture. We stayed there for 2 nights and we were upgraded to a bigger room with private bath on the second night. We really enjoyed it. My big thanks to everyone at Seikoen to make my stay there extremely enjoyable. I will definitley recommend the place.
It is a very traditional Japanese onsen in a very traditional Japanese town. It is not ultra luxurious but the whole atmosphere gives you a really good Japanese experience. What was really outstanding though - and we ate at really good places on this trip - was their dinner. Exceptional.
Enjoyed the private onsen that overlooks the garden. Must have been a great sight in Spring and Summer. Service was good both at the reception and the restaurant. It's one of the better looking hotels in the area.
This is a beautiful onsen hotel with exceptional staff. The food was varied and first rate. Nothing was too difficult to accommodate during our stay. A great base for the sites in and around Aso.
Nice plac with great staffs. walking distance to nearby restaurants. better rent a car to drive around as the buses are not that frequent. room is clean and spacious.
Superb and attentive service. Dinners and breakfasts were very good and the staff noted our preferences (no raw meats for one child). The private onsen were very comfortable. Rooms were a little bit cold but not unbeatable.
It's our second visit to this Roykan. Last was just 3 months ago. We like the friendly and attentive services and they have a lady staff who speak good english. We booked the half board package and the dinner was pretty good and serving was generous. Breakfast is simple and we enjoy the local produce like fresh milk and yoghurt. The green tea pudding was heavenly. IF you are looking for a buffet spread then this is nowhere near it. So why this place? Well it is right on the Route 212 and if are going north to Kurokawa area, this is an excellent choice. The other consideration is the cost, so grab it if the deal is on. And the onsen bath is good as there are 2 private bath where you can reserved for family use. The hot spring water is really great for relaxation. Nearby, Aso Farmland, the kiddo place is just 20 mins drive away. And you can drive up to Mount Aso in about 40mins.
Sozankyo goes above and beyond to meet the needs of their guests. The traditional inn is surrounded by beautiful, tranquil gardens, the staff is lovely and the onsens are terrific. The food tends toward adventurous and authentic but is also quite delicious.
A great experience with great onsen, nice room and great food. My room toilet is a kind of smelly, I complained about it but the staff insisted that it is the freshener aroma??? since I stay one night, I just let it go.
We spent 2 nights in its Japanese-styled room. The staff were friendly and helpful. We requested for a bigger room with a small room attached so our 3 year old can sleep earlier in a quieter environment. The hotel was very happy to make the arrangement without extra charge.
Highlight of the stay was their private hot springs - my 3 year old was definitely fasniated by the experience. We were being served breakfast in their private room, which was another homely experience.
Being in a non-urban part of Japan, language has always been a worry. But Suzankyo is staffed with fluent-English speaking staff, which made our stay a convenient one. We will definitely recommend Suzankyo for the homely and traditional Japanese experience.
