We chose to stay here because we had an 18 hour layover in Amsterdam and were due to land at 11:00 PM. It was so easy to walk over from the airport to our hotel and check in was super easy. The next day we checked out and left our bags at the hotel to take a train into the city for some sightseeing. It was also super easy. Really happy with our stay.

Quirky hotel room, where the toilet and shower are both situated within the room with glass doors to (sort of) conceal. The bed was very comfy, and luxurious pillows. I liked the mini iPad that enabled you to control all aspects of the room including blinds, lighting, mood etc Very handy for the airport

CitizenM certainly has a style that you may or may not like. The room layout is unusual and perhaps controversial. The voyeur shower is the central theme here and smacks of Amsterdam's red light district. The toilet offers more, yet optional, privacy. If you're OK with the aggressive room layout then you'll enjoy this hotel. The tech is another story. The iPad controls almost everything (you need to guess what it doesn't control) is a bit clunky. However, you can install yet another app to get around it. We decided to just live with the clunkiness. The bed is another interesting issue as you will need to crawl in and out in the vertical direction. That may or may not be an issue for you. In the end, CitizenM offers value with challenges. If you look at it as a positive you'll be happy here.

I can tell you what I didn’t like about the property. We went out all day and returned to a room at night only to find the room was not cleaned. Even the garbage wasn’t taken out. That was a big disappointment to my husband and me. We put everything outside the door and was scolded for it. There was no visible sign stating stating that house keeping comes every other day and we should call for a change of towels or for room service in general. We spent two nights and the room was not cleaned the entire time. If you’re a person who changes towels daily this is not the hotel for you. If you like your room cleaned daily this is not the hotel for you. The close proximity to Schiphol Airport is a plus. You can find food and shopping in the airport depending on what you’re looking for. The Citizen M also has a restaurant with great food but don’t expect room service. As a matter of fact you have to collect your food yourself and take it to your room yourself. If you have multiple orders you’d need more than one person to pick it up. Again no room service and no help was offered. My husband had to make two trips since I couldn’t go down to help him. I think that the Citizen M was designed to spend one night only.
