We wanted to stay for the experience but we will never stop again. Booked the deluxe double and the room was not nearly as refreshing as the pictures. Dated, old torn comforters, springy cheap bed, stopper missing in the sink, OLD shower with rusted trim, visible soap scum, prior check-ins hair still stuck all over the floor and a slow draining tub that needs to be snaked. Can’t believe I even got charged for this. I should have stuck with the hotel to the east that we always book. If you need it because you are traveling with horses then I guess stay there for convenience otherwise it really was not worth it. Steak house was fine, not the motel.

Hidden gem!
Pleasantly surprised would be the best way to describe. I tried to find something negative and joked to my husband that the only one I could find would be the Kleenexes are lackluster. Even the one-ply toilet paper was good! And, yes. I always bring a roll with me and I didn’t need to use it. My husband said the shower was great, as well.

Our room was very very uncomfortable. You could build the springs in the bed and it creeped every time you moved. We asked for extra blankets so that we could pad the bottom of the bed. It was so bad that didn’t really help. We did not sleep well.

I was looking forward to staying at the Big Texan Motel after seeing all the previous good reviews, but I ended up being pretty disappointed. First thing I noticed was the decaying steel outside stairs - some very large holes in some places - kind of scary thinking about the stairs you are on collapsing. My room (216) looks MUCH better in the pictures than in real life. Right out of the 70s with rough wood walls, flooring that doesn’t match, tiny TV, saloon swing doors to the bathroom area (kitschy cute but a pain and noisy to have to push through every time) and a child sized toilet (seriously). The floors were dirty (clumps of hair in the bathroom) and in general the space did not feel clean. Worn blanket on the bed and no full length mirror. I don’t feel like I have exceptionally high standards for a motel, but this one is a do not return to on my list.

Surprising Value
I decided to stay here based pin the high rating and price. We were on our way back from Colorado ad regularly stop for the night in Amarillo. Pros: Right off I 40 Clean Quiet Comfortable bed Right at Big Texan Restaurant Cons: No free breakfast Big Texan opens at 8 am for breakfast No other restaurants in walking distance No outlet at desk for computer WiFi not secure With the Cons it was still very good value and will make this my Place to stop from now on.
