Beautiful, country style cottage near the windmill, polder and windmill view

On a unique location, in the Green Heart of the Netherlands, on the edge of Alphen aan den Rijn, a splendid cottage was built and opened in 2014. The cottage is cozy and picturesque, decorated in country style; a place to enjoy and to relax. Situated nearby the windmill, you can see the windmill to one side and the beautiful polder landscape to the other side, where in summertime, cows and sheep graze outside. The cottage is surrounded by 3 terrasses.

The cottage is adjusted for 4 persons, of course less is also possible. The mentioned price is based on a maximum of 4 persons. An extension up to 6 persons is possible by use of one extra bedroom, or up to 8 persons by connecting the next door apartment, by way of an inside door. For more then 4 persons another price is applied. For more information about the extra bedroom or apartment, please ask your question on the 'Contact' page.

The cottage and the connected house are built in nostalgic country style, in perfect harmony with the windmill and the landscape. Lots of old materials have been used, like beams, bricks and the rooftiles of the former old cowshed.

On the groundfloor there is a cozy double bedstead (160 x 210 cm) and above of this bedstead it is possible for one or two children to sleep. This is an extra sleeping possibility, children don't have to sleep there. The space above the bed on top is limited because of the ceiling. All matresses are of good quality.

There is also a complete modern kitchen, a dining table and a cozy lounge area on the ground floor. There is also a bathroom with a shower and a seperate toilet.

On the first floor is a bedroom with two single beds. The boxsprings and mattrasses are of good quality. We have 'four season' wool duvets on all of the beds.

You are a guest of Hans and Susanne Vrolijk and their two children, the inhabitants of the windmill. Besides his Job as a technician, Hans is the miller of this windmill on a voluntary basis. Susanne Is a portaitpainter.
They would be very happy to welcome you!

Ofcourse it is possible to have a look out and inside the windmill, the miller is happy to tell you about its history and function.
Our customers tell us they can't get enough of the helpful staff at this cottage. During your stay, you'll be close to Vogelpark Avifauna. The cottage includes amenities such as free WiFi and a kitchen.
  • The cottage offers a kitchen, a washing machine, and a living room
  • Free WiFi
  • Onsite recreation includes a playground
  • Just a 5-minute drive from Mill Network at Kinderdijk-Elshout and 9 minutes from Zeegersloot Golf Club
This cottage offers its guests barbecue grills and a garden. The front desk is open around the clock.

This Alphen aan den Rijn cottage is smoke free.

Excellent Stay
We stayed 6 nights in April. Highly recommended. Small village with a Spar and a bakery/coffee shop on the large canal just a km away. Nice to watch all sizes of boats up the canal. Owner very cordial and helpful. Well located to visit the nearby towns. Peaceful. The windmill is very very interesting.

Amazing, convenient, and relaxing
We loved our stay at the Windmill Cottage! Hans was very helpful and welcoming, the cottage was very clean, big, and had everything we needed. The location is very convenient to other parts of Holland, and it was lovely biking in the area with bikes that we could easily and cheaply rent from Hans. The sunsets were amazing, and it was special to see ducks, swans, rabbits, and other animals in this quiet and beautiful area. If we come back to Holland, we will definitely stay here again.

Wonderful Stay
We came to see the tulip fields and absolutely loved this VRBO. This location was an easy 20-minute drive to Keukenhof. It was nice and quiet. There was a patio where you could relax and enjoy the views. Hans was very friendly and communicative and even arranged a last-minute tour of the windmill for us. Our kids loved the trampoline and the soccer play area. I highly recommend this location. Thank you Hans for such a wonderful stay.

Our favorite place to stay!
Our 3 night stay at the Windmill Cottage was all that it promised and more. My family trip included my mom (85 years young), my two brothers and me - on a journey throughout the Netherlands. We enjoyed the ability to cook and enjoy meals both inside and outside with ample space to relax the enjoy an early morning or a sublime sunset. Hans, our host, whose rental is appointment with modern amenities, was thoughtful and brought 3 bikes for us to use. Later he kindly gave us a tour of the windmill that has been in his family for generations. I highly recommend this special place - close to the coast, to Amsterdam and Rotterdam or trips to nearly Delft and Gouda and more. We enjoyed the traditional bedstay and loved talking with the sheep. Many thanks to Hans and his family for sharing this exquisitely beautiful spot on the planet.

Very clean, love the location, the bikes were great, great communication. Definitely has the old school Dutch feeling and we loved it. Great to be out of the touristy part of the Netherlands and get a real feel of the real Holland.

Quaint Dutch experience
My family and I spent one month at the cottage. We were able to completely relax and really feel like we lived like the Dutch. It’s located just off the beaten path from the big town. Everything is accessible by foot/bike/ or auto. The location is peaceful and we felt very safe. The property has full amenities and is kept up with beautiful gardens. Our host Hans was amazing and accommodating as well. He gave us lots of information and was super helpful on the area, as well as traveling around the country. There is plenty for the kids to do here… we had a teenager and toddlers! Our favorite was bonding with the farm animals and feeding the sheep. We will definitely visit again!

Swans and Goats and windmills
We loved our stay here after 4 busy days in Amsterdam it was the perfect venue and easily accessible to many destinations. The owner was very helpful and easily reached. The only downside perhaps were the beds which were small and a little too hard. The bedroom upstairs also did not have a bathroom nearby. other that that we had a terrific visit! :)

Perfect introduction to the Netherlands!
This place was perfect for our first visit to the Netherlands. Hans was a perfect host and even took us inside his home and showed us the inner workings of the windmill at the request of our 12 year old. Loved coming home to this place in the evening, we would love to come stay here again in the future.

Truly Dutch Experience
This property provides the quintessential Dutch experience - beautiful cottage on the footsteps of a windmill overlooking the Dutch polders with farmland and animals. It’s in a very central but quiet location, with easy access to all the famous sites in Holland. This is my 27th trip to NL and where I chose to introduce my children to my homeland. It exceeded all expectations.

Best holidays ever!
The place is amazing. It was ideal for our family holidays. Children didn't want to leave! The cottage has incredible views of the windmill and the beautiful Dutch countryside and wildlife. Yet, you are well located to explore Holland. The cottage itself is very clean and well-equipped. Modern and comfortable. The hosts are friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. Thank you! I cannot recommend strongly enough this place.

Truly wonderful stay!
It doesn’t get more Dutch than this: staying in a cottage on the property of a windmill. Our family of five loved everything about the accommodation. The cottage is clean and well-equipped. The owners were so kind and accommodating and even gave us a tour of the windmill. Close to the airport which was perfect for our early flight. Highly recommend.

Lovely place
We stayed 4 days in this very lovely place. We are a big family (2 adults and 5 children), the place is very cozy, we have a lot of place inside the cottage, and also outside (rarely used because of the weather). Is very close to the old windmill where the cottage owners live. The owners are very kind persons, and will be happy to give you also information about places to visit during your stay. We will come back certainly, if we will visit the Netherland again.

Perfect cottage in great location with friendly welcoming owners
We had a great few days in Windmill cottage. The cottage had all the facilities we needed & was very comfortable. Susanne & Hans were extremely welcoming & helpful. The setting of the cottage by the canals were perfect for us in a very hot week so we spent time kayaking into the village & swimming & watching the waterbirds from the cottage. We also cycled to the village (great bakery) & to Alphen & to various other swimming spots nearby. We visited Delft & Kinderdjik which were easy to get to. We would love to return.

Absolutely Gorgeous
There were 6 of us in our party. The rooms were very spacious. Separate bathroom and showers. The view of the windmill was wonderful. Suzanne was very accomodating and even gave us a tour of the windmill. We really enjoyed our stay there. It was only about 30 minutes from Amsterdam. We also ventured into other cities in Holland. Very close to supermarkets as well. Highly recommended. If we ever go back, we will stay here again. Austin, TX

Perfect getaway!
We were so happy with our stay at the Windmill cottage. Susanne was very helpful and the tour was awesome. The cottage is as pictured, so nice and roomy and very clean. It's close enough to the city to enjoy a day or two in the city but far enough to enjoy the beauty of the countryside of the Netherlands. I would recommend and gladly stay again. Thank you Susanne.

Danke!
