Casa de Artista located in the charming village of Abiquiu

A beautifully appointed Adobe home that can accommodate up to 5 guests nestled in the village of Abiquiu, which is considered uniquely beautiful and a quiet and serene escape from the every day to recharge and rejuvenate.

We provide a well-furnished house that is actually my family home so you won’t find a sparsely decorated “vacation rental. We provide freshly delivered coffee, excellent wifi, and Direct TV as well as a wonderful local caretaker to help with just about anything.

My family home for the last 40 years, nestled in Abiquiu, in the beautiful Chama valley, in Northern New Mexico. Abiquiu is a quaint and eclectic gathering of both native New Mexicans and those in the know.

The house was completely remodeling in 2005 from the roof to the floors. All new kitchen and amazing bathroom await you and you won't find is a hastily appointed 'vacation rental,' this is my childhood home, and it's been beautifully appointed with an eclectic combination of modern pieces and beautiful antiques.

Far from stuffy and boring, this house can be your jumping off point for all sorts of adventures in northern New Mexico, whether you're venturing into Santa Fe to peruse art galleries or headed to Taos to enjoy some fun, this house can be your idyllic escape from the hectic every day of your life.

It's such a beautiful and quiet place to be where the stars at night seem to go on forever.

The experience of being in the village of Abiquiu is such a unique perspective on life. It's not like the polished, touristy side of New Mexico; this house is located in the same place that people settled hundreds of years ago in a government land grant and continued with their lives.

The home is just a short walk to Georgia O'Keeffe's home and a short drive to Ghost Ranch. The area brings many repeat visitors and warrants new explorations with each visit. Take a drive into the Chama River Canyon to hike, visit the Benedictine Monastery, enjoy the hot springs at Ojo Caliente or simply embrace the enchanting nature of Abiquiu - allow yourself to enjoy it all.

Please know that the house is located in the highest part of the village and the road can be slightly intimidating. We've never had any issues with guests accessing the house or being troubled by neighbors.

Also, for clarity, the main bedroom is accessed through the second bedroom and the bathroom and kitchen are also off the second bedroom. The house flows from one room to the next as with most traditional adobe homes.

The house resides in a rural community consisting of dirt roads which a few guests have found surprising. They are generally in good condition for most vehicles but we want our guests to be informed of this.

Please be aware that this house sits next to other homes and that there are people around and there can sometimes be noise during the day.

We ask that our guests be flexible, understanding, and practice open communication when it comes to the neighbors and things such as parking and occasional noise. These are good people just living their lives, just know it's not an isolated vacation rental.

If you're looking for a unique experience, this is the house for you!
During your stay at this vacation home, you're just a quick walk from Girasol Gift Shop at Bode's. Free WiFi and a kitchen are available in the vacation home.
  • The vacation home offers a kitchen, a washing machine, and a patio
  • Free WiFi
  • 9 minutes by foot from Girasol Gift Shop at Bode's and a 2-minute drive from Rio Chama
This vacation home offers its guests barbecue grills. The front desk is open around the clock.

On the whole we really loved the casa, the neighbors added to our understanding of the Pueblo and its rich history. We enjoyed walking the lanes, chatting with the librarian and taking a walking tour. The casa was very well located for our adventures in Northern NM. The house itself was well appointed, spacious kitchen, beautiful western view from our bedroom. Unique and peaceful.

Needs cleaning and improved management, quality control by absentee owner.
Absentee owner does not inspect regularly, many things needed repair or maintenance- oven did not work, many lights needed new bulbs or troubleshooting, furniture needed Re arranging for bedroom doors to close. There is zero printed or written info at the property. Shower tub is very dangerous ingress egress, weird design of steps. Parking is totally weird and you have to ask the all day drinking-beer neighbors to move their cars to get in and out. I’m a 30 year resident of a more traditional northern NM village than Abiquiu, not an out of state tourist. None of these issues are cultural, rather just a function of passive lazy management. If they pay their cleaners more money , maybe they can spend more time making the unit proper for guests.

Great place to stay
It was a really nice house with everything we needed and then some. And easy drives to lots of places. As other people have said, it's a little difficult to find and parking is tight but we would definitely return.

Incredible place
If you're looking for a remote getaway, this is the perfect place for you. The inside of this home is more beautiful than the pictures convey, and Abiquiu is gorgeous as well. Check in and check out were easy, but as other folks mentioned I would definitely recommend getting there during the daylight hours because it is hard to find the first time. Parking is tight but we had no trouble once we got used to it. The neighbors were very friendly, we ended up chatting for a while and one of them gave us fresh fruit from his orchard. I definitely recommend saying hi and introducing yourself if you stay here. Overall, we had a wonderful time and I could not recommend this spot more. Hopefully we will be back sometime to visit again!

Well you get what you pay for! Arrived at night so no matter how good the instructions are we weren’t going to find the place - had to be guided in via the cleaning crew. We were gone early and back late every day we were there. Getting in and out of the driveway to and from the assigned parking was atrocious. Seemed like the neighbors intentionally parked in such a way as to make entering and leaving the driveway a real hassle (we have a compact car). Our assigned parking had a overgrown shrub that scraped our car and got in the way of passengers getting in and out. House interior had live daddy long leg spiders and beetles. Awkward tub and shower combo that was cumbersome getting in and out of (an accident waiting to happen). Toilet is awkward for a man to use in stand up mode. Driveway neighbor has some sort of hoarding thing going on so his yard and driveway are full of his “Assets” causing his car to partially block the driveway making for entry and exit issues.

Impossible to locate, impossible parking, neighbors way too close and they all lived in a hoarded yard filled with cats and rubbish. No views, did not feel safe.

An absolute recommend
My brother and I really enjoyed this beautiful adobe home. It's located atop a hill in the heart of Abiquiu, which makes for beautiful sunsets and stargazing - especially from the courtyard. We found the next door neighbors to be incredibly welcoming and helpful. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen large and well-equipped, and the bathroom felt more like a spa. The casita is a very short walk up the road from Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and Georgia O'Keefe's home and studio and a short drive to Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu Lake, and the Monastery of Christ in the Desert, among other places of interest. As a plus, the casita is less than an hour's drive from Bandelier National Monument and Valles Caldera National Preserve. We will definitely be back.

Best Way to Visit Abiquiu
Gorgeous in pictures, even better in person. I love that it has (clearly) been around for 100+ years but is still being loved and maintained. All the beauty of an NM adobe with the renovations to make it comfortable. For future guests: wifi can be spotty, bedrooms lie between patio and bathroom/kitchen so privacy is better for 2 than 4, and the one air conditioning unit struggles to cool the whole house, so close interior doors at night. Nevertheless, for the price, location, and charm, this property is fantastic! A rare treat in the area that I can't wait to visit again.

I really love finding places like this. It's a place with character and soul. It was everything needed and more. Parking may seem tricky the first attempt, but is easier each time. The immediate neighbors seemed polite, quiet and kept to themselves. I would definitely return.

Sweet spot
This home was even more special than it appeared in the listing. It has beautiful touches and is the perfect sort of rustic and comfortable. Sadly we had to go a day later than planned due to some personal issues. I wish we could have had our full 2 nights. It definitely was tricky to find, but the owner really makes a big effort to clarify, including a map and detailed directions. I wouldn't want to arrive for the first time in the dark though! There is no way around this, it is just how the neighborhood is. There was a cute little girl outside when we arrived that told us she thought we were in the right place. We brought a dog with us and he was welcomed, but I will warn you that there are lots of cats roaming around outside so if your dog is anti-cat, you will need to be careful. The morning brought a nice surprise of a funny friendly horse at the gate next to where we parked. I loved all of the options for things to do in the area that were thoughtfully left by the owners. The listings and the maps were helpful because I did have trouble with the internet - it seemed to work best if I was sitting at the kitchen table but it was spotty. Internet wasn't something we were expecting or needing so no big deal. I also live in a small town with limited options so I am used to that. Another tip: they ask you to through the sheets in the washer and dryer before you leave but I had to search and search for the appliances. I was almost going to call the housekeeper when my friend found them in a closet in the bathroom. It wasn't obvious to me that it was a closet because of the mirrored doors but maybe it would be to normal people, so that is just an fyi. if you need All in all, just a wonderful sweet spot, rustic and an authentic experience of the area. It was a perfect getaway to share with a friend and I hope to eventually return!

Wonderful slice of Abiquiu
This was a great place for a little getaway with friends. Plenty of space for 3 girls and close to everything you need in Abiquiu. The kitchen is stocked with supplies and essentials, and the fire pit on the patio was a bonus and used each night to wind down. We were even surprised with some Angry Orchard in the fridge! The neighbor, their horse and cats were very friendly. Wonderfully priced for the accomodations provided. The huge bathroom was wonderful for all us girls. The only difficulty is the tub/shower. It can be hard to reach the shower knobs, and being conscious of your surroundings when getting in and out is recommended. We also didn't have the correct wifi login and password, but we didn't mind too much. Parking can be tricky, and trying to back out is even trickier. Be aware of your surroundings, the neighbors, and animals so you don't hit anything. Use your friends to help guide the car. Otherwise this was a fantastic place to stay and I would recommend it to friends visiting the area.

Loved the place
We ended up loving this place! Neighborhood was safe, neighbors were nice ; only down side was that there was no view except the neighbors’ homes & yards—which were somewhat unattractive . Outdoor enclosed patio was lovely, especially in the cool evenings. Interior was beautiful and plenty of space with everything we needed. This stay was perfect for us since it was exactly what we needed for a central location for hiking to Ghost Ranch, Ojo caliente springs, Bandelier, visited Santa Fe —- all approximately 1 hour in any direction. Parking was not optimum. Steep unpaved hill to arrive should be described just so guests can be prepared. Manager was so kind to us, too! Great kitchen and spacious bathroom. Wifi / internet great! We would definitely stay here again!

The real desl
One could easily pass by the real Abiquiu if you just stayed on the highway. But the real town is up the hill — the museum, the church, the real people in their humble abodes. We appreciated this diversity . The home itself is old and unique and well furnished and supplied. The soaking tub was great!! The artwork a surprise are Avery turn.

Relaxation and Exploration
This property and Abiquiu were a wonderful base for exploring the area, and the house offered the opportunity to veg out and relax. The house had all the amenities I would want and need: various ways to make coffee, a crockpot, utensils, linens, washer/dryer, large fridge, electric stove, microwave, etc., but no dishwasher. It was nice being “local” and in a community rather than in a motel. The property manager was very welcoming and helpful the one time I needed something done in the house. No problem with check-in. House was clean and in good order when I arrived. The lockbox worked. A bit of a challenge locating the house. Arrive during daylight. If I were to be in this area again, I would rent this house.
